Cleaning Up the Mess
VIDEOS: In 2010 I filmed a ten-part multi media Guardian Media series titled Cleaning Up The Mess campaigning for environmental awareness and legislation.
For the past 30 years, the Government of Trinidad and Tobago has failed to enact any meaningful Environmental legislation and are record is poised to be the worst in the region. Barbados has already initiated the Returnable Containers Act which allows for customers to return plastic bottles, while in St Vincent and the Grenadines, Styrofoam products are banned. This country reportedly discards up to 26,000 tonnes of PET plastic containers per year - enough to start a local plastic recycling facility. Source: Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT)
Meanwhile, Trinidad and Tobago's carbon emissions are among the highest globally and environmentalists say that the emissions and effluents from the Point Lisas oil and gas Industrial estate are poisoning the air and water.
